Perception & Positivity

I think it's fair to say that a lot of us spend a large portion of our lives connected in some way to cyberspace.
It's not an uncommon sight to see throngs of people glued to their smart phone or tablet, even folk sitting in cafe's on laptops. And as this becomes more and more commonplace, and the generation of selfie taking online socialites takes hold we seem to keep more of our real life offline and only highlight the best bits.

Things like this video created by HigtonBros on YouTube, show that often people only share the most positive things in their lives online leaving the rest of us feeling as if we fall short compared to our peers, even though we may not know the full story. And series' like Online and Lying documented by Emily Hartridge really delve into the way we choose to often separate how we are in real life and how we'd like people to see us online.

I'd like to bring this all to a point about the things you put out there, not just online but in our very real everyday world. I created a very steep learning curve for myself a couple of months ago, almost a self inflicted experiment to see if it was really possible for me to change and rewire my entire way of thinking, acting and being.
So far it's been nothing but a success, I have really made every conscious effort to be a more positive, loving person. Refraining from posting negative comments online, talking bad about others and even attempting to ensure that I keep my thoughts as positive as possible.

It may seem "odd" or "stupid" to some people, but I can hand-on-heart say that I feel a lot happier as a person for it, I've removed myself from negative situations where possible, found new avenues for my creativity to blossom and have started smiling a lot more.
I think it's all too easy to get caught up in a whirlwind of gossiping, negatively commenting on online content and poking fun at others these days. And I truly believe it takes a stronger, more conscious person to be able to look at themselves and to stop involving themselves in such behaviours.

Sure, nobody is perfect but I feel we should be making the effort, every moment of every day to better ourselves and to try and be the best version of ourselves that we possibly can be.

Be as loving, positive and happy as you can be and you'll find that even when the chips are down, you'll find something to smile about.
